The Vatican said doctors found cancer.
The 71-year-old underwent a 90-minute surgery on Tuesday after a lung nodule was discovered during a medical exam.
Tests confirmed a diagnosis of lung cancer for Pope Leo XIV, the Vatican said in a medical update after the surgery.
